2013 Brubeck Festival

Jazz fans rejoice, the 2013 Brubeck Festival is almost here!  From March 18th until March 23rd, the city of Stockton will be transformed into a jazz mecca.  From film screenings, a jazz street faire, and family events to symposiums, lectures, and live performances, the 2013 Brubeck Festival is going to be a truly special event.

Launched on the University of the Pacific campus in 2001, the Brubeck Festival celebrates the legacy and influence of celebrated jazz pianist Dave Brubeck – a University of the Pacific alumnus. Brubeck, who passed away last year, was one of the most popular and active jazz pianists and composers.  He wrote a number of jazz standards over a career that spanned six decades and his most famous piece, "Take 5," revolutionized the jazz art form in the 1960s.  In celebration of his contribution to the world of jazz, the Brubeck Festival highlights some of the world’s best jazz musicians and brings them to Stockton to take part in lectures, panel discussions, and special live performances.

The Brubeck Festival is headlined by three concerts featuring some of the world’s jazz-music powerhouses.  Tom Harrell plays at San Joaquin Delta College on March 21st, Wynton Marsalis plays at the Bob Hope Theatre on March 22nd, and the Brubeck Brothers Quartet play at the University of the Pacific on March 23rd.

After the headliner concerts, head on over to the Take 5 Jazz Club at the Valley Brewing Company on the Miracle Mile for an intimate jazz setting with performances by Brubeck Institute and local musicians.

Take a look at the schedule of events below and be sure to get your tickets to the headliner events soon--we are positive that they will sell out!

Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Parade in Downtown Stockton

For 33 years, Downtown Stockton has welcomed a special holiday tradition that rings in the official start of the holiday season!  The Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Parade, hosted and organized by the Marina West Yacht Club, features a parade of boats and yachts adorned with bright Christmas lights that sail along the California Delta and into the Downtown Stockton Waterfront!

On December 1st, 2012, you and your family are invited to enjoy this free holiday celebration.  The lighted boat parade starts at 5:00pm west of Windmill Cove Bar & Grill and should be in Downtown Stockton by 6:00pm.  Boats enter downtown and pass the Stockton Marina to Weber Point.  They turn around in McLeod lake (near the University Plaza Waterfront Hotel) and return to Buckley Cove.  The parade will once again be led by the spectacular Port of Stockton fireboat, "Sunrise".  "The Judede," skippered by Commodore Ken Dretzka and First Lady Judy Dretzka, will lead the officers of the Marina West Yacht Club followed by all other registered decorated boats.

You can even become a part of the parade this year while enjoying a cruise and dinner on board Opportunity Cruise's "California Sunset!"  Get in the holiday spirit with a three hour Delta cruise that includes hot chocolate and drinks, dinner at Nena's Mexican Restaurant, and be a part of the 33rd Annual Delta Reflections Lighted Boat Parade!  For more information about the cruise, check out our event listing at VisitStockton.org.

Delta Reflections has the reputation of being a great evening for spectators of all ages, so bundle up and be a part of this wonderful family holiday event.  The lighted boat parade takes place, rain or shine!
